Sherbrooke Avenue, Pollokshields

This project involves the internal remodelling and extension of a traditional red sandstone villa in Pollokshields, Glasgow. Although the public rooms and bedrooms of the house were spacious the kitchen area and existing conservatory were cramped and under-used. There was also no direct access from the rear rooms to the south facing walled garden .The new extension provides a study and large dining kitchen, with bi fold doors opening onto a rear south facing patio. Rooflights allow light to flood into the kitchen throughout the day. A new opening leads into a cosy living space housed in the former kitchen. To the exterior the chosen materials contrast and complement the existing villa ensuring that the new extension is quite clearly a modern intervention to the original Victorian dwelling bringing the property use into the 21st Century.
